All Types of Outpatient Surgery

All Types of Outpatient Surgery

One of the most common misconceptions is that surgical dentistry is solely for tooth extractions, but it has long gone beyond these limits. Its modern mission is to restore teeth and preserve their function. It is the surgeon who can save a tooth, correct a “short” lip frenulum that affects speech, and help align teeth. We all know how much trouble wisdom teeth can cause — a surgeon will help solve this problem comfortably and efficiently.

The specialists at Vivadent Dental Clinic perform all types of outpatient surgical procedures and aim not to remove teeth, but to preserve them.

Surgical dentistry is a part of restorative dentistry that uses unique techniques such as tooth-preserving surgeries, dental implants, aesthetic periodontal procedures, bone grafting, and more.

Comprehensive treatment of dental diseases often includes a combination of therapeutic, prosthetic, surgical, and orthodontic methods. In such cases, surgical dentistry complements the solutions provided by prosthetics, orthodontics, and other branches of dentistry.

Today, the main goal of surgical dentistry is the preservation and restoration of teeth. In the past, a tooth would be removed in any complicated case, but now doctors do everything possible to avoid that.

This is why surgical dentistry focuses so much on tooth-preserving procedures, such as removal of various growths in the bone or soft tissues of the oral cavity, root amputations, crown-root separations, and various techniques for treating periodontal diseases.

When conservative treatment of one root of a three-rooted tooth is ineffective or impossible, surgical dentistry can offer a solution. To avoid extracting the entire tooth due to one damaged root, root amputation is performed — the root is carefully removed, turning a three-rooted tooth into a fully functional two-rooted one.

When decay affects a two-rooted tooth in the area of bifurcation (where the roots divide), a crown-root separation is performed — the tooth crown is cut into two parts, separating the roots. This transforms one two-rooted tooth into two single-rooted ones, allowing better access to the damaged area and enabling proper treatment.

All surgical methods aimed at treating periodontal diseases are also considered tooth-preserving surgeries. They are designed to strengthen teeth, eliminate infection, and help rehabilitate patients with this complex condition.

The specialists at Vivadent Dental Clinic perform all types of outpatient surgical procedures and aim not to remove teeth, but to preserve them.
